Synopsis:
The heart-stopping story of the first black regiment to fight for the North in the Civil War. Glory stars Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, Cary Elwes and Morgan Freeman.

Broderick and Elwes are the idealistic young Bostonians who lead the regiment, Freeman is the inspirational sergeant who unites the troops, and Denzel Washington, in an Oscar winning performance, is the runaway slave who embodies the indomitable spirit of the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts.

Despised by the South, distrusted by the North, the 54th overcame seemingly insurmountable odds in their fight to join the war for freedom. Underpaid and ill-equipped, facing certain death at the hands of the Confederacy, the 54th rose to every challenge; their courage, skill and sacrifice paving the way for the Union`s ultimate victory.

Based on the true story of American`s forgotten heros, Glory is one of the greatest war movies ever made.

Preceded "Saving Private Ryan" by almost a decade, "Glory" is a good war movie. While it`s not as captivating and authentic as SPR, it is still a good movie.
The story is a mixture of fact and fiction and tells the sad story of the civil war and the very first black regiment which fought for the North.
While it is a violent movie by its nature, it is hardly ever gory. The director navigated through the movie without making our stomachs turn, but still - we DO get the picture.
The acting of Washington and Freeman is excellent and the rest of the leads are quite good as well.
The transfer is a 1.85:1 one and a good one as well. While the film did contain a few scratches, the transfer itself is almost flawless.
The DD 5.1 audio is surprisingly good. Since the original audio track was only in stereo, the re-mastering of the audio for this DVD was done very well. The fight scenes excel in particular but also the serene scenes in the camp are very good.
The bonuses include 3 short featurettes (all of them very nice), a couple of deleted scenes (no comment here), a great commentary by director Edward Zwick, some trailers and an isolated musical score (which is a bit redundant for this movie).
All in all, an important war movie, which war-movie fans are bound to enjoy.
