Synopsis:
Goran Visnjic (ER) stars in Spartacus, based on the epic tale of one man`s leadership during one of history`s most legendary fights for freedom. In 72 B.C., a time when the Roman Empire`s brutal force was far-reaching, each conquered country meant new slaves to do the bidding of their Roman masters. Sold into slavery as a young boy after witnessing his father`s murder, Spartacus eventually grew to lead a slave revold against Rome`s powerful generals and politicians. The profound impact of Spartacus` challenge to the Roman Empire in the name of freedom was felt for years to come.

The story itself is interesting, drawing on an actual historic uprising in the 1st century B.C. Roman Empire. The disc`s got a nice clean widescreen transfer, only drawback is you`ll have to get up from your sofa to flip the disc over about halfways to see the second part of this originally aired TV series. There are some really good performances from the main cast, especially hot babe Rhona Mitra and Goran Visnjic...ahh, they`re really a cute couple...And yes, the production value is of high standard, helping you to get into the right Roman mood. Watch it together with the missus, let her feed you some black grapes while you sip some red wine, and who knows what`ll happen?

A commendable film with sadly few extras on the disc.

A note to the original reviewer, Sue Davies: Mr. Visnjic comes from Croatia, which is close to Italy and Austria, not Bulgaria. This is easily obtainable information:
