Review of Save a Life

Introduction

This is an official product issued by The Red Cross. It covers a range of first aid situations that occur in everyday life.

There are reasonably realistic scenarios and graphics to explain a course of action for particular injuries. It is offered as a guide to these techniques and by showing it graphically hopes to get more people able to cope in these difficult situations. With many people learning their `facts` from Casualty this offers a more down-to-earth approach.

Video

No problems with picture. This is likely to be a transfer from an original video. There are not particularly high production values but that`s not really the point of this particular DVD.

Audio

There appears to be a fault on the sound as there is an underlying soundtrack or interference in another language. I presume this has been transferred from video and this fault has remained undetected. No other problems, the speech is clear and concise.

Conclusion

This is a good introduction to basic first aid techniques and would be very useful to show groups. It is better than a book because the techniques are shown clearly including how to treat a child and an infant. The step by step approach meakes it easier to follow and learn. The reviews and on screen checklists are good and the chapter access makes it useful for revision. It is not a substitute for actually going on a course of first aid lessons.
