Review of Corey Holcomb: The Problem is You

5 / 10

Introduction

This is the last of the Ad Lib Breakout Comedy Series trilogy that I had received to review, so I had a prayer riding on it to make me laugh. Holcomb`s repertoire consists mainly of sex/relationship humour and he gives both men and women a hard time. He also likes a tipple and is drinking on stage and getting ever more inebriated...

Video

Presented with a 1.78:1 widescreen enhanced video transfer, the quality of this digital production shows up very well. Colour and detail are good, and there`s no dirt, but colours such as white can look a little overexposed in some of the show. Despite this, it`s nice and clear and doesn`t have any other problems.

Audio

LPCM stereo is the only audio track presented here, and seeing that this is purely dialogue it`s not a problem at all and works well enough. The sound is crystal clear.

Features

Easy to navigate menus with a few extras:

• Backstage with Corey (2:55) - Supposedly behind the scenes with Corey before he goes out to do his act. He`s just playing to the camera and trying to be funny. It`s an extension of his stage show, and remains unfunny, despite all the cursing.

• Get the #*@! away from each other (5:33) - This is where Corey Holcomb plays an `Agony Uncle` type figure and reads out fictitious letters about relationship problems men and women are having. He then answers in his own unique Corey Holcomb way. This goes on for a mind-numbing 5 minutes and is very tedious as well as unfunny.

• Screensaver (Corey`s Love Lair) - Select a widescreen or a fullscreen screensaver. Just what you need to pass away those hours while protecting your TV screen. Nearly as good as just turning off the television...

• Bonus CD - This DVD package comes with a bonus CD of the main show, so I suppose if you like the stand-up routine, you can listen to this in the car or stereo somewhere.

Conclusion

Corey Holcomb is on stage for about 35-minutes, shorter than a lot of stand-up comics I know and it feels a bit short too. He jokes are recycled from about a thousand other comedians because it`s all sex/relationship based and none of it is funny anymore. His delivery is okay and he seems to be getting drunk as time passes on, but his material needs work. I smiled once or twice because some of it borders on average/good but he needs to polish his act. If you`ve caught any of Corey Holcomb before and liked what you see, you could check this out. Otherwise it`s not worth bothering about.
