I`m not a big fan of Spike Lee, to put it mildly. However, I had great a lot of expectations from this movie, mostly due to Edward Norton, who`s a great actor.
The movie tells (or rather tries to tell) the story of the last 24 hours in the pre-prison life of Monty Brogan. It revolves around Monty`s relationships with his lover, friends and family. Despite the somehow slow story-line, Norton does not disappoint, nor does Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The video transfer is good. There are no apparent compression signs and the picture is framed accurately.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is good as well. While the surrounds aren`t that active during most of the movie, they kick in in several (club) scenes, as they should do.
The menus are animated with sound.
The extras include 2 commentaries, a megalomaniac featurette about the director, 6 deleted scenes and a short documentary about "ground zero".
Bottom line - an ok movie, over 2 hours long. Don`t mind the predictable script. Give Norton a try.

A Compelling in it`s own way Spike Lee film, with some disturbing Racial Undertones that underpin the leads relationships
