Review of John Wetton: The Ultimate Anthology

5 / 10

Introduction

Well dear readers my reaction was the same. Even though I am often known as music trivia man, yet again with this series I couldn`t name a single song by this man. Let me pass on what I`ve learnt (not a lot). John was a writer and performer in King Crimson, Uriah Heep, UK and Asia (still not getting any warmer are you?) He was also a member of Family.

The tracklist is located up above.

Video

We get full frame pictures, from 1975 to 1991. For the most part it looks just like video footage from the various years. It`s nothing to write home about, just a bloke and some other blokes on stage getting older and looking like a stereotypical rock band.

Audio

A choice of dts and DD5.1 soundtracks. Whichever you go for, they sound like average remix jobs, mostly using the front three channels, and there`s not much audience in the mix either. On the whole these are ok, but nothing special.

Features

Not a thing.

Conclusion

Like many music discs, this one is very definitely for fans only. Wetton`s music didn`t thrill or excite me at all and I won`t be rushing back to listen to it again.

If you are a fan then you might be interested in this collection of songs, but it does just seem like a cheap cash in on some tracks that they found they could get for not much money.

The picture quality is average, and the sound is not bad with reasonable dts and DD5.1 tracks, but you suspect more could have been made of them. So if you`re a fan then you might want to pick this up on the cheap. It won`t win any new converts though.
