Synopsis:
In Peter Weir`s Master And Commander, Russell Crowe stars as Captain "Lucky" Jack Aubrey, renowned as a fighting captain in the British Navy. After a French ship almost sinks them in a battle, the ship`s surgeon and Aubrey`s closest friend Stephen Maturin (Paul Bettany) cautions him about letting revenge cloud his judgement. A great adventure movie with some mind blowing scenes.
Life on a ship had never been portrayed better and even Crowe gives a decent performance.
The video transfer is very good. There are no compression signs at all and the colors are beautifully saturated.
Quite a few shots just ooze style and simply look great.
The DTS and DD 5.1 soundtracks are both excellent. The surrounds are used quite violently and help emphasize just how loud life on a ship can be.
The menus are animated with sound.
The disc offers no extras at all.
Bottom line - a great movie with superb audio and nice story. Too bad the disc is so bare. Go for the 2-disc version.
