A majestic film. The atmosphere is eerie al the way through. The region 2 has french and english soundtrack. The film is over 160 minutes long ( this is the version longue after all ) -and I think the more the better ! This is one of my favourite films of all time. The picture quality is okay, not bad at all, but not significantly better than the laserdisc - still, I had to get it on DVD ! Couldn`t miss this one !! Alas, there are virtually no extras.

I have always rated this film, in fact its probably in there with my all time top ten. So i had to get it on DVD, and was not
dissapointed. The film itself is pretty long but it does not matter for you are too engrossed to realise the time, with great performances by all the cast, you will laugh and possibly even cry! at this fascinating film. The video is beautiful with some great colours. The underwater scenes work well and are not too dark, but at the same time you get the feeling of depth, above the water, eveything is bright and loud. The soundtrack of this film is outstanding, with some lovely mellow, unwinding sounds, so i was expecting some quality on DVD and although all the great tunes and sound are there i found i had to pump up the volume a bit to get the valued effect, this may be down to me having bought the sountrack cd and expecting more, i dont know, but i did take my original DVD copy back to the shop i bought thinking it might be faulty but they replaced me with another copy which is exaclty the same. (must just be me) don`t let this put you off once you crank up the volume you will be in a different world for a few hours! Unfortunatly the extras on the big blue are zilch! just a trailer i`am affraid, which if you ask me is criminal for such a great movie. Overall the Big Blue is a great film with a great sountrack, which is a must for your collection, if only so you can escape your everyday life to a different world.
