Synopsis:
When laid back American scholar Roland Michell (Aaron Eckhart) discovers a collection of love letters between two prominent Victorian poets, he recognises that he`s on to a big literary find. Enlisting the help of sceptical British academic Maud Bailey (Gwyneth Paltrow), the two embark on a journey to unravel the truth surrounding the poets` forbidden love.

But as Roland and Maud track the elusive romance across the British countryside and the continent, the two scholars soon find themselves tangled in a love affair of their own. Director Neil LaBute moves seamlessly from past to present to portray parallel love stories, in this beautiful and passionate adaptation of A S Byatt`s Booker Prize winning novel Possession, which also stars Jeremy Northam and Jennifer Ehle.

Your Opinions and Comments

7 / 10
A nice romantic drama about two scholars finding the truth about the relationship between two Victorian poets.
The video transfer is good. There are no compression signs and the picture is clear of defects.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is rather flat. The surrounds are hardly used, but who cares - it`s a drama, not an action-packed movie.
The menus are still and silent.
The extras include a commentary by the director. That`s it.
Bottom line - a harmless little movie, which, alas, comes on a rather bare disc.
