Synopsis:
Only once in history, has the U.S. been at war with itself. In 1861, the Southern Confederacy is formed, and the American civil war ignites.

Along the Kansas/Missouri border childhood friends, Jake and Jack join up as horseman, raiding the North`s union soldiers and sympathisers. With a harsh winter looming, their unit, known as the Bushwhackers must disperse and find shelter. Several squad members hole up in a hidden hillside dugout. Their vigil is brightened only by a compassionate young widow, Sue Lee.

Then, the realities of the war intrude, splintering the group. In the intense and brutal battle, the young men reach turning points both in the fighting and in themselves.

Ride With The Devil is directed by the acclaimed director Ang Lee.

The civil war affects the lives of a group of neutrals (Tobey Maguire and Skeet Ulrich) and thus they decide to take matters into their own hands and fight the Yankees, gathering people into their small army as they go on. An incident occurs which leaves Toby, Skeet and Jefferey Wright confined to a wooden shack, they get close with Jewel who lives close by and Skeet falls for her. During an attack, Skeet is killed and this changes things for everyone........

A great enjoyable movie by all standards. Tobey Maguire is brilliant as usual. The movie is not about the civil war but about these people. There is no great final battle scene in the end like there would be in a normal war movie, this is very different. The movie also touches on issues of racism at this time.

Visuals are very good. Very little grain. Sound also is very good. Score and scenery are great and go together well. Costumes also are very good and fit the setting well.

Extraswise there are some very interesting featurettes about the making of and behind the scenes but these dont last very long. A great movie that is well worth watching.
