Review of Arsenal Season Review 2002/03

8 / 10

Introduction

He shoots, he scores! It`s that time of year and time for a review of last season`s games. This Season Review contains all 119 Arsenal goals and that`s a lot of goals. Arsenal finished second in the Premier League, just 5 points behind Manchester United on 78 points.

Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry completed 100 goals for the club and you can see their hugely impressive contribution here. Don`t forget David Seaman`s 1000th appearance and great goal moments from Robert Pires, Sylvain Wiltord and Freddie Ljungberg too. Just to recap on some of the truly stunning games, there`s the victory against Roma with Henry`s fantastic hat trick, Henry`s ITV Goal of the Season, as well as FA Cup wins at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford.

If it`s instant access to individual games that you want, you get it. Access All Areas lets you select from Premiership, Champions League, FA Cup, Worthington Cup and Community Shield. Within each competition you can select from home or away games and watch the goals in each. The DVD is very well done. As well as all the goals, there are interview clips with the squad and Manager Arsène Wenger.

Video

Presented with a full frame transfer, it`s variable throughout. The worst it seems to get is some smearing and pixellation, but thankfully it`s not a common occurrence and doesn`t obscure viewing. Colours and detail look good and you can see every goal without problem.

Audio

Nothing fancy in the audio stakes, this is football after all! Plain old Dolby Digital 2.0 gives us exactly what we want, clarity. All the interview footage as well as football video is clear in terms of sound. No problems heard at all.

Features

Easy to navigate menus with a few interesting extras:

• Inside View - Interviews with Arsène Wenger (11:46), Thierry Henry (18:03) and David Seaman (7:14). There are clips of these interviews played in the main programme interspersed with matches so it`s good to see the whole interviews here.

• Action Replay - Three games highlighted with Arsenal playing against: Leeds Utd (5:24), Tottenham Hotspur (5:05) and Chelsea (6:15). These are already featured in the main programme so it seems a little redundant here other than picking out favourite matches.

• Top Gunners - All the goals from Thierry Henry (32 goals, 7:59), Robert Pires (16 goals, 4:13), Sylvain Wiltord (13 goals, 4:05), Freddie Ljungberg (9 goals, 2:39). A nice little extra concentrating on just the goals scored.

• Record Breakers - Player Appearances table, Final League table, and Goal Scorers table. Great for all you stats fans.

• Arsenal.com - A link to the Arsenal website.

Packaged in a slim Amaray case, the inlay features all the fixtures, results and attendance records from all the competitions played in the last season. There are no subtitles.

Conclusion

"Manchester City have no answers to any of the questions that Arsenal are posing." You`ve got to love football commentators.

Patrick Vieira leads a winning side and it`s a sheer pleasure to see it all again here. You have to see Thierry Henry`s goal of the season too, it`s good crowd cheering stuff! Despite the variable video quality, this DVD still impresses and I`m not a huge football fan. In fact, this season review makes for ideal watching since it`s just about the goals and games. Enjoyable to watch this DVD is a must not only for Arsenal fans, but for any football fanatic. Running at 115-minutes, there`s plenty to see and see again. Recommended.
