Review of Wonderful World Of Sex, The

Introduction

Well, it ain`t wonderful and it ain`t sexy, so that`s two for the Trades Descriptions Act. This is a 100 minute compilation of a sad programme that`s been around a couple of years, and I suspect some of the clips in it have been around for at least five.

WWS is a "Eurotrash" style magazine programme about (obviously) sex. I use the "Eurotrash" reference advisedly because I`m sure I`ve seen a couple of sequences on this disc before, with those appallingly patronising voice-overs and dubs. The series proper was made for Playboy TV UK and I`m almost certain has been seen in trimmed and rearranged forms on a variety of other channels.

Among the 23 items on the disc are that terribly sad "School Dinners" club (where a team of trained slappers dressed as St Trinians` schoolgirls abuse yuppie diners) and that ultimate sex-doll item that plumbs the depths of creepy.

I`m no prude, in fact I`ve probably seen more than my fair share of smut over the years, but this disc is typical of the sad, prurient attitude the British have to matters amatory.

If you`re looking for a cheap thrill, this isn`t one, and if you actually find it titillating you really should get out more as you`re leading a very sheltered upbringing.

Shot on video and presented here in its standard 1.33:1, you`re only getting what was shown on tv, but without the odd bits of matrixing or blocking out done in the name of propriety (or the ITC). Not that you`re seeing much.

Features

There are around thirty "stills" in a stills gallery, but that`s it apart from Arrow`s catalogue of other titles.

Conclusion

A sordid little example of News-Of-The-World-style television. This is the kind of prurient titillation programming that got Channel Five such a bad name in its early days. Yes, you see a few more naughty bits than you would have on tv but if you`re in the market for a good perv you`ll be sadly disappointed.

If I ever see those "lifelike" deluxe sex-dolls again, I`ll chuck up.
