Synopsis:
Regarded by many as the best Hong Kong film ever, this is the movie that brought Woo and star Chow Yun Fat the international recognition they justly deserved. Essentially an homage to Jean-Pierre Melville`s 1967 classic, Le Samouraï, THE KILLER is the definitive John Woo film, fully conveying the director`s favourite and recurring themes of guilt, vengeance, brotherhood and redemption. Credited with inspiring the works of Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs) and Robert Rodriguez (Desperado), among others, it is also the most perfect example of Woo`s trademark use of stylised violence and spectacularly choreographed scenes of bloodshed.

Jeff (Chow Yun Fat) aka `Mickey Mouse`, an unusually sympathetic assassin, takes on one last job, hoping to make enough money to retire and fund a sight-restoring operation for his girlfriend, Jenny (Sally Yeh), a beautiful lounge singer he accidentally blinded during a previous hit. Betrayed by his mob employers and seeking revenge, Jeff reluctantly teams up with the cop assigned to bringing him in, Inspector Li (Danny Lee) aka `Dumbo`, who discovers he has a grudging respect for and empathy with the killer. Together, this unlikely pair confronts the ruthless gang of Triad mobsters in a series of bloody showdowns leading to a mind-blowing finale.

This movie is very entertaining. A sypathetic hitman who blinds a woman whilst performing a hit helps her out and gradually falls for her. A cop on his trail also feels for this hitman who only kills bad people. Together the 3 of them form a great friendship. However the hitman is sought after by triads and this leads to a final electrifying battle. The gunplay is excellent. Probably John Woo`s best film to date.
