I was forced to watch this film with my cousin one day. I am a fan of Disney filoms, but this one did not appeal to me at all, until I watched it that is! The film has all aspects of a Disney classic- songs, stars and little characters that steal the show! In this case Mushu, a 12 inch tall dragon, and Crik-kee a lucky bug! The story is well thought out, but still seems a bit grown up for younger kids. The animation is amazing, especially the scene where the Huns charge down the mountain.

The disc itself like many Disney DVDs is not impressive, it has chapter selection, and "recommended viewing" sinply a picture of the video boxes of other Disney DVDs. Not even a clip!! I wonder if Disney will ever enhance all their DVDs, like Tarzan and Toy Story 2 disc sets etc!

We shall only hope....

A nice movie in the well known tradition of Disney. The story is simple and the characters are loveable (especially Mushu).
The video transfer is very good. There are no compression signs and the animation is superb. Some of the scenes (especially the fight scenes in the mountains) are breathtaking.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is surprisingly very good. The surrounds are used occasionally (horse galloping sounds, mainly) and help create a nice atmosphere. The disk contains 7 additional dubbed soundtracks (French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Hebrew and Greek), which is cool, especially for the youngsters.
In the best tradition of Disney, the disk has no extras whatsoever.
Bottom line - a nice movie that looks and sounds great. Too bad the disk is so bare.

"Mulan" revisited - September 2004

It`s been over three since I reviewed this movie, and one of the only thing I remembered from it was the character of Mushu.
Well, I now understand why. Mushu provides the best comic relief moments in the movie.
Three years in the future, the movie`s animation is still impressive with a lot of depth and detail.
As for the story - well, women in the army - not such an issue nowadays, but hey - this movie is set way back in history, and in China.
Bottom line - still enjoyable and well worth a 2nd and 3rd viewings.

Another great film from Disney. I was not expecting much when I first saw this, however it only took me till 15 minutes into the film to realise that Disney had managed another magic film. The disc itself is fantastic with the exception of the non-existent extras. But I'm not going to go on about this because
1) I think the film is worth the purchase even without any extras (although it is a shame, seeing as the R1 disc has some!).
2) Disney have produced some wonderful 2 disc sets recently so I'll forgive them this once!

A great film! Recommended.
