Sleepers (UK)

Sleepers is a story that revolves around four boys, Lorenzo, John, Tommy and Michael who have been raised and live in the mafia-run Hell`s Kitchen, New York. The judical system is supposed to protect them. However, one warm day during the summer they pull a seamingly harmless prank that spins terribly out of control and they end up almost killing a man. This changes their lives forever and from that point on they are robbed of a normal life. Afterwards they are sentenced to a punnishment that does not fit the crime. The four friends are sent to "The Wilkinson Home For Boys" and while they are there they are subjected to beatings, sexual assaults and rapes by prison guards who are the very people that are supposed to look after them (Kevin Bacon, Terry Kinney). Fifteen years later, Lorenzo (Jason Patric) works at a newspaper and Michael (Brad Pitt) is a New York lawyer. The other two boys become hardened criminals working for the mob and they end up seeing Nokes (Bacon) in their local pub and they shoot him to death. Jason Patric plays Lorenzo great and he also does an excellent narration throughout the movie and Robert De Niro potrays Father Bobby very well. The only extra feature on the DVD is the trailer but it is good as well. From the opening words to the stunning courtroom scenes, Sleepers is a thrilling, great and haunting movie. This is a very good DVD which I would recommend to anyone because it is a great film and is well worth buying.
