Back To The Future Trilogy (3 Discs) (Australia)

So, you have a `region free` DVD player. You`ve heard seen all the hype about this trilogy box set. The question is...do I buy the Region 1 version or the Region 2 version?

Well put yourself out of your misery right now!!

Do neither and get hold of the Region 4 version! It`s available now ( I got my copy from CD wow.com for 17.99 and it arrived 3 days after ordering the darn thing!). You will save youself a load of cash and the only thing you won`t have is the few more extras the R1 and R2 discs may have. Too many extras can spoil the disc, that`s my motto and there`s far enough on this `set` as it is. Plus it`s Anamorphic 1:85:1 with DTS sound too!

Just like all good Trilogies, you can`t watch numbers 2 & 3 without having seen 1. Not only is it important to set yourself up with the characters portrayed in the original, but it is probably the best of the three movies in terms of comprehension and general enjoyment.


The image quality throughout all three of these films is quite impressive given the number of years that have passed since the initial production, although I do believe that much of this is due to the improving DVD encoding technology that has evolved since its original incarnation over 5 years ago.
One thing which should be noted is that (unlike George Lucas` Star Wars CGI-Enhanced Trilogy), Robert Zemeckis` Back To The Future Trilogy on DVD has had absolutely no redone SFX or extra screen activity added to the original negative - these films are exactly as the filmmakers produced. There was also no attempt made to remove any visible wires or correct any of the split-screen (rotoscoping) effects - which really makes us appreciate how difficult it was to have achieved the effect of multiple actors interacting with themselves and sometimes even making contact with (if not passing an object to) each other. Keeping these inconsistencies intact helps to retain all of the charm, if not emotional connection, which won over an intelligent movie-going public.

At less than £6 for each movie, this is way and beyond the best value ever for DVD since the inception of the format itself. And even though it may lack somewhat in the outstanding extras department, it sure makes up for in price.

If only I had myself a Delorean so I could import the R1 DVDs right now ... I doubt I`ll get one before then, so the R4 Back To The Future Trilogy DVD Box Set is more than a worthy purchase for that ever increasing DVD collection I just can`t do without (and it will be the cheapest Back To The Future DVD Collection in the world, too).

With a long time waiting we're finally blessed with the Back to the Future trilogy, and oh my I never realised how much I loved these films.
I always had a soft spot for the adventures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown but it's only after you've not seen it for years that you're really appreciate how much you do enjoy that film.

For those that have been living on mars for the past 20 years, the trilogy is about time travel that is possible by Doc Brown's Delorean time machine.
Being a trilogy box-set which contains all three films that have all been digitally remastered.

Just a word for Sarah Scott, please watch the discs before reviewing, I read your reviews with interest and enjoyment, but this one was totally wrong.

All three films are presented in a 1:85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, for the age of the first 2 films the quality is outstanding as the picture is clear and virtually grain free with contrast and shadow levels excellent.
The third of the trilogy is the best for quality as it's a later film to the other two films.

Sound: -

This is the section that made me cream in my pants, not only are we getting an excellent Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, but we also get a DTS 5.1 track which is clearly the choice to go for if possible, with more vigorous use of the sub and rears but when Alan Silvestri's score kicks in you'll turn into mush because the DTS makes fill use of the rears and sub that fills the room with sound.

Extras: -

As with many trilogy box-sets only the first of the three gets the star treatment, not true with Back To The Future all three get extras, with making Of from when they where made, and newly made Making Of, Deleted scenes, Outtakes, Interviews and an Audio commentary on Part 1.

Overall: -

This is an excellent package, with films that are highly enjoyable for young and old people alike, extras that are amusing and informative and if you know where to go can get it for £17.99 for the whole trilogy.
If you're a fan (and I've not met someone who isn't) you need this set.

this is an excellent trilogy dvd set and at £17.99 an excellent buy! The video and sound especially in DTS are brilliant. If your a fan of the series don`t wait for region 1 or 2 get region 4 now!

Back to the Future Trilogy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Region 4 rules!!!!!!! I`ve waited forever for this to come out on dvd! Its nice to see Australia getting the best dvd deal on a great trilogy. Believe me, there are so many reasons to get this version of BTTF Trilogy:
1) Its available now! (from 21/8/2002).
2) Its dual encoded for regions 2 & 4 (so you don`t need a multi-region player).
3) Its a PAL transfer, so should in theory look better than the forthcoming NTSC region 1 version.
4) Its got a DTS soundtrack (which the region 1 version doesn`t!!)
5) It is and always will be the cheapest BTTF trilogy on dvd ANYWHERE in the world! (You can acquire a copy for as little as £17.99 delivered!!)

To be fair, the only advantage the region 1 version will have over this is more extras. But who cares? As it stands, this is a feature heavy boxset anyway with enough extra material to keep fans happy.

The picture for all three movies is 1.85:1 Widescreen Anamorphic. The movies truly defy their age with a stunning array of transfers! The colours are vibrant and the images are all very sharp and well defined. Only slight instances of grain pop up, but they are very fine and only minor.

Sound is available in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1. The soundtracks are great and feature lots of bass and powerful music. The dialogue is clear as a bell, effects are sharp and clear, and there is generally nothing amiss. The rear channels even get a good workout in certain scenes, although im sure more modern soundtracks sound more engrossing and fuller.

The extras are plentiful, but seem to get lees and less in quantity as the series progresses. The main attractions here are the new retrospective documentaries on each movie, deleted scenes and outtakes.

All in all this is a spectacular package that is well worth purchasing, as it has it has everything a BTTF Trilogy fan could want! AND its out NOW, not December like the region 1 & 2 versions!!!!!

Well what can I say at last my favourite movie trilogy of all time on DVD.
