I haven`t heard a thing about this movie prior to seeing it. The disk`s cover promised "a masterpiece". Well, the cover lied a bit. While the movie isn`t so bad, it takes forever to become good.
The movie`s first hour is almost unwatchable (while staying awake, that is). There`s a lot of character development and background about each and every character, but that rather delays the (decent) plot, which only kicks in during the movie`s second hour.
The video transfer is very average. Compression signs can be spotted very frequently, and some scenes look a bit grainy. Most of the movie seems a bit washed out with desaturated colors and blurry scenes.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is flat. There`s almost no usage of the surrounds, which is acceptable for this kind of a drama.
The menus are animated with sound.
The extras include a 25 minute behind the scenes featurette.
Bottom line - if you can manage with the very slow pace through the first hour, this Australian movie will reward you with a pleasant second hour.
