This is one of the classic manga films. Along with others such as "Akira" it is regarded as the pinnacle of Japanese animation. Want to know why? Good. It`s because it is a good film you see. Bet that smacked you in the face. Let me explain:
The animation is literally unbelievable, in some scenes you have to actually play it back several times just to make sure that it is even animation at all. This is insane as the whole film was done by hand by about 5000 animators (guess). The scenes where things get exciting are incredible, with a mad depth to the detail.
The plot is pretty good with a whole range of philosophical type questions being raised and generally it makes you look inward and think deeply about reality and your place in it.
The "acting" is marginally suspect as the voices are American and not quite suitible for the lips. The voices do fit the characters just the animation is a different matter.
The best part of this film is the gore. It is not frequently gory but if you have seen it more than once you actually look forward to the messier parts. These parts are also great as the guns that do the damage are usually....um...great. The designs of the weapons and other technology is truly believable and it is obvious that alot of thought has gone into it.
Technically the films is fine with decent quality all round. The extra features are nice but arent really ever relevant when it comes to rating a film. Me mucho liko zees feelm.
