Review of Dragon`s Lair II: Time Warp

8 / 10

Introduction

There is no point covering old ground twice, so if you have no idea what Dragons Lair 2: Time Warp is all about, this is the sequel to the classic arcade Laserdisc machine. If you want background information it might be a good idea to go and read the Dragons Lair review.

I don`t recall ever seeing this in the arcades or on a computer conversion, so this one was entirely new to me. Still, it is essentially the same idea as the other games in this series, the main thing of interest to me was had they improved the playability?

Conclusion

As the second game in the series, you would expect a lot of improvements. The animation is much better, the editing is a thousand times improved. The time it would take you to complete this is going to be far longer than its predecessor, especially considering each sequence is much much longer. Dying can be so much more frustrating.

In this follow up, its much easier to know where you went wrong. Items and areas flash yellow everytime you are required to do something, helping you firstly to work out what to do and secondly what to push in order to do it. There are even bonus objects to increase your score, which is pointless considering you have no score on the DVD version, but hay.

This is one for nostalgic arcade freaks, and possibly even the kids. It is essentially a far more polished version of the previous game with a brand new storyline, much longer sequences and better prompting.

Once again a must have for emulator fans or people wanting something to keep the kids busy for half an hour every now and again. Others will very much suffer frustration from its lack real interactivity and repetitive play, particularly with the longer sequences.
