Synopsis:
Former choreographer Bob Fosse directs this 1979 musical drama, a semi-autobiographical tale focusing on the self-destructive Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider). A creative genius, Joe is simultaneously working on a new film and a new stage show. Meanwhile, his personal life is on course for disaster as he parties hard and veers wildly from one lover to the next. Jessica Lange plays Angelique, one of several women that Joe pursues, as does Fosse`s real-life protégé dancer, Ann Reinking. Seemingly unwilling or unable to slow down, Joe ignores various health warnings, and verges dangerously close to both physical and psychological collapse. All this gritty drama is regularly punctuated by dazzling and extravagant Broadway numbers that demonstrate Fosse`s distinctive dancing style. The lavish costumes earned the film`s costume designer an Academy Award.
