A lot has been said about this movie from the late controversial director Stanley Kubrick. This movie was a lot different than your standard war movie. The film begins at the training camp where young marines are trained to be killing machines by a cruel and brutal army officer. Here we meet characters such as Gomer Pyle, Joker and Cowboy. The harshness and brutality gets to them. After passing training, they go to Vietnam where they put into action what they have been taught. The movie is provides an interesting aspect to war, not explored in other movies. It is a little unconventional but still is interesting to watch and moves at a swift pace.

The picture quality is excellent. The movie is about a decade old but the picture doesnt seem to have aged a bit. Clean and sharp, there is very little to complain about this department. Maybe a widescreen anamorphic picture would have been better. The sound also is a fantastic crisp and clear DD (5.1?) that brings war to life.
Extra wise there was only a trailer. This was a dissapointment as this was a good movie and deserves more.

A good and interesting movie about the dehumanization of soldiers during the vietnam war. This movie falls just short of the other great vietnam movies Platoon and Apocalypse Now but is still a good movie from a top director. Due to its nature, I recommend renting this first and as there doesnt appear to be a SE on the way, this is a decent version to buy. Its a top disc let down by the extras.
