X Files, The: The Movie (Special Edition) (UK)

I`m sorry, but this film is rubbish. I am not an X files fan, but this is worse than the series. They were trying to put a bit in for everyone. But my my is it boring. Shallow, sorry film. Anyone want my copy ?

Well, I`m not a huge fan of the series, but I do like it (sometimes). Still, this movie is great. It has something for everyone. OK, none of the actors deserve an Oscar for their performances, but the movie is great nevertheless.
The video transfer (2.35:1) is simply awesome. All the special effects are rendered very clearly and are done to perfection. I especially enjoyed the scenes on ice, since the detail of the picture could be easily measured there. And they measure very well indeed!!!
The DD 5.1 audio track is explosive. Everything sounds frightenly real. The bees scene gives me the chills whenever I think about it. By the way, according to the behind-the-scenes section, a lot of the bees were REAL bees. OUCH!!!
The commentary track by the director is superb. It gives you exactly what you always wanted to know.
So is the truth really out there? I haven`t got the faintest clue, but I know a great movie is out there. Go get it! :)

The X Files revisited - October 2005

Five years after first watching this movie, and upon watching it for the second time around, it`s still a good movie, yet not a great movie.
The disc is still a solid disc and the combination of a commentary track, a behind the scenes featurette and a cheap price - make it a good deal.

What i think about the fight the future
The x-files movie was released on july or august 1998 in finland and i can remember that it was a big blockbuster movie.i had many expectations about the fight the future, because i thought that all the big secrets would be revealed. Unfortunately my expectations were too high and it was a little disappoinment to me in that time.the plot was very interesting and entertaining, but i thought that the movie didn`t had enough answers.later i heard that chris carter and the other filmmakers wanted to do the x-files movie so that all the people who hadn`t watch the serie could understand and enjoy this movie.one the same time they wanted to reward the fans with some little answers and to show something that isn`t able to see in the x-files serie.there is an unusual scene where mulder and scully tries to kiss eachother, but suddenly a bee interrupts their first kiss.in the end of the movie chris carter wanted to have a kissing scene, but it didn`t fit to the happenings.carter decided to hide their kiss by using a scene where mulder gives oxygen to scully by mouth.the whole scale of the movie is much more bigger than in the serie and the special effects, explotions and locations are something that x-files fans don`t usually see.all these kind of things rewarded me in the theathre and the fight the future was actually a very good movie and exciting experience which won`t be never forgotted.the plot is mainly gathered around the black oil stuff which was also seen in the x-files serie, example in the pipe maru episode which was and is still one of my favourites episodes.i think that the biggest disappointment to me was that the absolutely best character called alex krycek played by the actor nicolas lea didn`t had any role in the movie.in the theathre i was waiting all the time to see alex krycek on the big screen, but sadly the greatest character didn`t fit to the plot.luckily there was a quite good part for the cigarette-smoking man, who is also very cool and interesting character.he had a great scene in the end of the movie, when he said "it`s all going to hell" and i just couldn`t be laughing.there were also some famous actors like martin landau who is known from the old mission impossible and he plays characters called alvin kurzweil and armin mueller stahl known from the interesting movie called 13th floor plays character called conrad strughold.the x-files movie wasn`t directed by chris carter as i had thought, but it`s was directed by rob bowman who is known from some x-files episodes.it was actually a good thing to give opportunity to bowman, because his directing was really great and with carters help they were able achieve something that hadn`t never seen before.the music was once again composed by the master called marc snow, who was able to do many types of music to the x-files movie.you can hear romantic, exciting, mysterious score and something so beautiful what really makes the movie alive.

The transfer
Finally i was able to get the x-files fight the future on dvd and to see how good is it actually.it`s distributed by 20th century fox which has always doned cool dvd transfers and with the x-files fox continues the good line.the video is presented in 2.40:1 & 16:9 widescreen and the picture quality is good enough to get full points.it`s very sharp`n clear with good and bright colors so that the video is enjoyable.the strongest side of this dvd is the audio and it`s presented in dolby digital 5.1 and it`s sounds very good.the music and soundeffects were awesome and the feeling was right on top.the soundeffects were actually so good, that while i was watching this x-files dvd with my sisters, my cat jumped up to watch it and to listen the wind sounds in the beginning of the film.then suddenly my cat got scared after a while and runned away.it was such a fun to see the cat staring at the x-files movie like some big x-files fan.so, now back to the business.the menus are very cool with x-letter chancing colors on the cornfields and a great threnody in x music track playing on the background.the weakest part on this dvd is once again the supplements (extras) as on many other dvd`s.the quality of the extras is quite good, but maybe the amount is too small.it`s got an excellent making of the x-files documentary with some very interesting information and many interviews including actors, directors, producers and so on.original theatrical trailer which i had seen many times before and ofcourse audio commentaries by chris carter and rob bowman.i usually love audio commentaries, but suprise suprise this time i didn`t.it would had been better if carter and bowman had talked together, but it sounded like they were separated.chris carter`s commentary were quite boring, but rob bowman`s commentary were much more entertaining and interesting.i think that david duchovny`s and gillian anderson`s audio commentaries would had been much more entertaining.there was one little thing that bothered me and it was that there were no extra scenes in the movie.there were text in the cover "longer version", but unfortunately it was the normal version like the fight the future cassette.the x-files movie was a "must buy" dvd, because i`m a x-files fan and even it`s not a perfect dvd it`s good enough to give equivalent to your money.if you`re going to buy this dvd remember to trust no.1.
