Synopsis:
With the slash of a steel blade and the mark of a `Z`, he defends the weak and exploits and avenges the wrongs committed against them...

It has been twenty years since Don Diego de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins) successfully fought Spanish oppression in Alta California as the legendary romantic hero Zorro. He transforms bandit Alejandro (Antonio Banderas) into his successor, in order to stop the tyrannical Don Rafael Montero (Stuart Wilson), who robbed him of his precious daughter Elena (Catherine Zeta Jones) all those years ago.

`The Mask Of Zorro` follows Alejandro as he assumes de la Vega`s mantle and embarks on a passionate journey of love and honour, tragedy and triumph in a swashbuckling epic of an adventure.

The idea of the film is clear:make Zorro a star of new generation using the great video and audio techniques which have become available in early days.
Overall it is a good film in which Banderas is the perfect interpreter of a story of love and action using his "caliente" spanish blood.
Speaking of image quality I must say that the level is high and it seems a conversion made well with bright and correct colors showed on screen.
The audio is wonderful, I have not gave an higher rating only becouse in some action sequence the surround presence can be greater though it is just enough to put the viewier at the center of the action. The soundtrack is fantastic not only for the atmoshere that it creates but for the crystal quality with you can ear in dolby digital.
Finally Zorro is a good way to spend your money.

Happened to miss this at the cinema, and even when it was shown on TV, so thought I'd give it a go on DVD… and I was not disappointed. This film is great fun, with a good mixture of adventure, action, humour and romance.

The disc itself is also quite good. Video and audio are both fine, and the extras are rather good. We get a deleted scene, trailer, filmographies, director's commentary and a music video. But the real highlight is a hour long documentary on Zorro and the film which is more than the average self-promotional garbage that usually gets put onto these discs. Some actual thought has been put into the documentary, which makes a nice change!

Overall, a fun filled film (try saying that after a few drinks!) on a solid disc. Recommended.
