Review of Lovely

7 / 10

Introduction

Lovely is a short romantic comedy about a groom who is trying to impresses his would-be in laws so that he can marry his girlfriend. The film is heavily inspired from classics like Dilwale Dulhainia Le Jayenge (1995) and Meet the Parents (1999), but not only does it manages to copy from these films, but also adds a new element of a fun filled screenplay that entertains the audiences for just a couple of hours. This is aided with some top humor dialogues and situations, good comic performances from the cast & enjoyable screenplay.

The film also has its weakness such as a poor score from Deva, weak and harassing sexual moments from vixen actress Monal, and some poor moments of sentiments before intermission. Other then these "chinna (small)" faults the film is a lighted romp that is top notch. Watch out for the brilliant Indian comedian Vivek, who is on top form and provides the best laughs in this film.

Video

The DVD is presented in an aspect ratio of 2.20:1, in an anamorphic transfer. While cropped from its original aspect ratio of 2.35:1, cropping is never an issue. Much of the frame is covered. The picture quality is again as expected from Ayngaran: nice sharpness detail, good colour rendition, detailed blacks. But the DVD does have some flaws like the high amounts of wear and tear during reel changes, some film grain and shimmering. However regardless of the flaws the picture still looks quite fresh, and is one I am pleased with for a film made on an extremely low budget.

Audio

The sound on the DVD player states 5.1, but this disc is presented in the film original soundtrack 1ch mono. Only the centre channel seems to be active. Thankfully the sound is preserved as according to the original format. The sound itself is nothing to write about. It does best what a mono track should do.

Features

Nope...none just English Subtitles.

Conclusion

A good comedy film, in good quality. Only worth purchasing if selling on the cheaper side.
