Your Opinions and Comments
The atmosphere is very realistic , its believable.
The cast you see looking tied and sea sick.
Its one of the only war films that does not glorify war in any way. In this film war stinks. There are no goodies or badies in this film, and history is not changed, like in some war films.
The sound is excellent and so to is the picture all be it a few years old.
I wish all war films were like this true to life , not making up history as they go along like in u-571 were apparently the americans steal an enigma to help crack the code.
The americans film makers should take a leaf out of this film.
Forget Saving ryan , this is far better.
If you only have one war dvd in your collection make it this one.
You get over 3 hours of film for your money (Although the original tv version was nearly 5 hours long).

Video:- A damn fine anamorphic transfer that does everything it should. A surprisingly clean transfer considering how dirty the crew is.
Audio:- Fantastic DD5.1 soundtrack here, brilliantly remastered for DVD. The depth charges sound fantastic, the music rocks along quite emotionally and the vocals come across fine. Damn good.
Features:- The featurette isnt up to much and the trailer is well........err just a trailer. It does have a feature length commentry from the director though, which is a huge plus. I havent watched any of it yet but I am going to.
Overall:- One of the best war movies you can find. Shows Saving Private Ryan and the like a few things in my opinion. Well worth the lengthy watch.
However, this almost-three-and-a-half-hours movie failed to impress me. It`s way too long (even the Titanic took less time to sink) and the plot`s progress is horrifyingly slow.
The video transfer is average. There are no compression signs, but the transfer reveals dust particles and scratches, which haven`t been cleaned up. The dark scenes contain some grain, and some of the blacks are a bit smeared.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is very good. The newly restored soundtrack utilized the surrounds very nicely and contributes a lot to the incredibly claustrophobic atmosphere of the movie.
The disc also includes a DD 5.1 English dubbing, which I found very satisfying.
The theme music is quite memorable.
The menus are still and silent.
The extras include a commentary by the director and the crew and a short behind the scenes featurette.
Bottom line - a boring and overrated epic that failed to leave an impact on me.
