Synopsis:
Dharma (Amitabh Bachchan) is an honest and noble farmer who lives with his wife Radha (Waheeda Rahman), and younger sister Laxmi (Heena Kumar). When his wife gives birth to a son Dharma is extremely happy. But knowing that he needs more income to support the family he takes on the job as a guide in the nearby jungle.

When three brothers Ajit, Sujit and Suresh Singh come from Bombay to hunt for a tiger they hire Dharma. Happy with his services and honesty they offer him a job at their factory in the city. But Dharma continues his farming work. However the drought in the village affects Dharma and forces him to move on to the city to his new work with the Singh brothers. The brothers are happy with Dharma`s hard work and appoint him as supervisor.

But after a police raid it is revealed that the brothers are involved in drugs and gold smuggling. Unaware of this fact Dharma is wrongfully arrested as the head of the illegal operation. When in court the brothers state that Dharma was in charge of the whole operation. The judge then sentences Dharma for a couple of years in prison.

While Dharma serves his time, his wife is resorted to becoming a cleaning lady while his younger sister ends up a victim of rape committed by Sujit Singh. All of these events changes the once happy go lucky Dharma into a vengeful person who begins his revenge on the brothers after he is released...
