Synopsis:
Sridhar (Ajith Kumar) has been keeping a `penance` for the past eight years of his life in order to become a music director in the film industry. Trying through all means he is unsuccessful. Despite this his family members is still supportive of him. His older brother Siva (Raghuvaran) is working two jobs to pay the bills. Sridhar is then given a break into the industry with the help of his girlfriend Viji (Johtika), but bad luck strikes and Sridhar dreams remain unfilled.

When Viji`s younger sister marriage is arranged her father asks Viji to marry too as it is customary in Indian society for the older sibling to marry first. Viji then tells her father about her love for Sridhar. Her father begins to worry that her boyfriend has been unemployed for eight years and continues to follow a dream that now seems unlikely. Her father and Sridhar talk about his future and weather he can provide for his daughter if they marry. The conversation begins to erupt and when Sridhar is left to choose between his dream and his girlfriend he chooses his life long dream.

Meanwhile Siva suffers from his second heart attack, and when Sridhar realizes that this would affect his family he decides to sacrifice his dreams for their sake after their years of sacrifice for him. He finds a job and begins to pay the bills, and looks after his brother.
