Synopsis:

Just had to post a quick review of this film to balance out the appalling rating given to it by the other reviewer. I`ll get more in depth later.

In short, top film that most of you will have seen. I can`t for the life of me see how anyone thinks this glorifies drug use in any way. I certainly know that I don`t find the prospect of waking from a drug-induced stupor to find a dead baby in the next room appealing.

Video is good, which is surprising for a number of reasons, mainly that it`s an older film, which has been put out as a low-key release. It`s anamorphic, which is more than I expected.

Audio is good too, but I haven`t really listened to the club scenes yet to get a full idea of the range of sound on offer.

Extras are non-existent, which isn`t a surprise, although you do get an pan `n` scan version if that`s your thing. Still, doesn`t detract from what is a gritty and emotionally draining film, especially as the subject matter is far closer to home than the usual Hollywood gloss.

Trainspotting only worth 2 out of 10? I don`t think so.

The film itself is very a good conversion to film from the Irvine Welsh novel although it loses some of the books finer detail.
Also mildly annoying (personally) is the extensive use of Glasgow locations, to what is originally an Edinburgh set story (even the indoor sets were filmed in a disused tobacco factory).
Another gripe is that the UK region 2 disc has limited features and appartently the Candian region 2 disc is the one to go for.
Can anyone explain the BBFC`s decision to cut 10sec of a shoot up scene from the video and DVD, when it has been shown on televison on Channel 4 and FilmFour uncut?!?!?
Other than that the film still holds it appeal since seeing upon release at the cinema

Although [disctitle]Trainspotting[/disctitle] won`t ever be as good as the novel, it is still a great film. It mostly follows main character Mark Renton and shows him and his mates` addiction to herion and other hardcore drugs. It also shows loyalty in friendship and shows how easily drugs can change your life. It does also highlight everyday life in Edinburgh and the rest of the world.
Some disturbing scenes and some scenes that will stick in my mind forever.
Overall, great storyline, great acting and just a great movie.
One that i am proud to have in my collection.
