Synopsis:
Rai Saab (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) is a rich businessman who becomes addicted to gambling. He eventually loses everything and is murdered by Raja (Shakti Kapoor), who with Teja (Raza Murad) wants to start rebuilding their drug selling empire.

Teja once had a big drug laboratory that was destroyed by police officer, Rajesh (Feroz Khan), however Rajesh had to pay his dues for this as Teja kidnapped his girlfriend, Seema (Sridevi) and forced her to take drugs which killed her slowly day by day. When Rajesh tracks down Teja`s hideout, Teja escapes leaving a dead Seema for Rajesh. Rajesh vows to end the drug empire that Teja continues to rule over.

Rai Saab`s daughter, Reshma (Dimple Kapadia), is left with nothing and decides to go to Rai Saab`s close friend Rana Vikram Singh (Amrish Puri) for shelter. Rana has two sons - Rajesh and Amar (Anil Kapoor). Rana loves his son Amar very much and gives him freedom to do what he wants, from drug taking to sexual encounters, so that he can enjoy life to its fullest. Rajesh has feelings about his erratic brother`s behaviour but loves him just as much.

Amar becomes involved with Reshma, who is unaware of his true colours. Both eventually make love and while Reshma believes that Amar loves her, Amar considers it a one-night stand. When Reshma asks Amar to marry her he insults her and she becomes heart broken. The socially conscious Rana is pleased with his son`s decision, as he himself doesn`t want his son to marry Reshma who was born out of wedlock.

In time Amar will learn the value of love, but will he be able to get Reshma back? And what of Rajesh`s mission to end Teja`s empire? Janbaaz highlights the excesses of 80s disco, sex, drugs and yuppies.
