Synopsis:
Kailashnath (Aloknath) has been looking after his two nephews Rajesh (Mohnish Bahl) and Prem (Salman Khan) since their parents died when their were young. Now Kailashnath, a wealthy businessman, decides that it`s time Rajesh should marry. However knowing that Rajesh will refuse, both Prem and his Uncle decide to take Rajesh to a temple to meet his future bride and her family without him knowing the real purpose of the meeting.

Once there, Kailashnath and his family meet Pooja (Renuka Shahane), her father, Professor Choudary (Anupam Kher), her mother Kamladevi (Reema Lagoo), and her sister Nisha (Madhuri Dixit). The professor and Kailashnath knew each other from college and were old friends. When Kailashnath asks the professor if he will accept his proposal of Rajesh`s marriage to his daughter the professor accepts and both families rejoice.

During the wedding preparations both Nisha and Prem begin to know and understand each other as close friends and as time goes by this turns into love. A year passes and everyone is happy with life, Pooja gives birth and Prem and Nisha`s love blossom. Prem decides to tell his sister-in-law the truth as he wishes to marry Nisha. When told Pooja is happy for the two and decides to tell the family, but before she can tell an accident occurs and Pooja tragically dies.

Both families are stunned and sadden, but now everyone is concerned for Pooja`s baby. Rajesh tells everyone that he could look after the baby himself and he doesn`t need to re-marry. He fears that his new wife won`t be as loving to the child as his real mother. However the Professor suggests that Nisha should marry Rajesh as she is no stranger to the baby and would look after the child as much as his mother would. When everyone asks Prem for his opinion on this matter he agrees with them as he feels it also best for the baby.

When Nisha learns that her father has arrange her marriage she assume that it is with Prem, and so she says yes. However when she learns the truth that she is to marry Rajesh she is shocked and decides to tell Rajesh the truth. However thinking about the baby needing a mother keeps her quiet. Will Rajesh ever find out the truth about Prem and Nisha, and if so will he still marry?
