Synopsis:
Muthu (Rajnikant) works in Raja Malayasimman (Sarath Babu) palace and Raja sees Muthu as a confidant and friend, while Raja`s mother (Ratharavi) sees him as a second son. Raja loves to watch stages plays and dances, and takes a reluctant Muthu with him. One day, when both go to see a show, Raja sees a heroine on stage called Rankanayahi (Meena) and falls in love with her. However Muthu doesn`t get on with her as he sees her as a bit of a troublemaker.

A situation occurs when Muthu has to save Rankanayahi from an angry mob and when he does they end up lost in an unknown village. They spend many days together trying to find their way home and learning to cope with each other. This ends up in a love relationship.

Muthu decides that it is best for her to stay at Raja`s place for a while until things settle down and that they should pretend not to get on with each other so that no one suspect their love. He brings her to the place, and when Raja sees her he is pleased and asks her to stay and work at the palace for a decent wage. But Muthu and Rankanayahi don`t realize that Raja is also in love with her...
