Synopsis:

John Cusack (Con Air, Being John Malkovich) stars as Rob Gordon, the owner of a semi-falling record store located on one of the back streets of Chicago. He sells music the old-fashioned way, with his two wacky clerks - the hysterically funny rock snob Barry (Jack Black) and the more quietly opinionated underachiever Dick (Todd Louiso). But Rob`s business isn`t the only thing in his life that`s floundering - his needle skips the love groove when his longtime girlfriend Laura (newcomer Iben Hjejle) walks out on him. A nice movie about relationships and the love of LP`s.
The video transfer is good. There are no compression signs and the image is mostly clean of scratches. Several scenes seem a bit blurred (mainly the outdoors ones).
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is ok. The surrounds are used on occasion for some ambiance, but the movie is dialog driven mostly with an emphasis on various types of music (which is only logical, since most of the movie is shot inside a record store).
The menus are all still.
The extras include a behind the scenes look and 9 deleted scenes. Nothing too exciting.
Bottom line - a simple, yet appealing movie that anyone who appreciates a story told in the first person would enjoy.

This is a class comedy about romance and music. Having not read the Nick Hornby novel, I can`t comment on how well the book has been translated onto film. John Cusack is great in this movie and whilst some people find his talking to the camera annoying, I found it added to the film as a whole.

The picture is good and the sound is okay, seeing as this is a dialogue based film. The special features are a bit thin but, there are some good deleted scenes, especially the cameo from Harold Ramis.

A great comedy on an okay disc.
