Review for WWE Day One

Wrestling on New Year's Day sounds like the perfect start to a year and hopefully this is something that WWE can do every year. This PPV was hugely enjoyable and of all the matches presented they all had their moments to recommend watching again. It is very rare that I say this and so it is nice to say that I have no negatives to say about this PPV.

The Usos against The New Day for the Smackdown Tag belts was just perfect and easily match of the night. This was an example of two teams who are just magical together. I could whinge about not pushing King Woods after winning the King of the Ring or Kofi still being nowhere near the Main Event, but I won't when it produces amazing matches like this. The tag match between RK-Bro and Street Profits for the Raw Tag belts was also great, though not as good, it is still nice to see some strong tag matches for once.

Drew McIntyre against Madcap Moss was good to watch mainly because I am enjoying this insane storyline with Happy Corbin. This could almost be described as a squash, but still great to see.

The feud between Edge and The Miz is just pitch perfect and everyone involved are playing their role to perfection. I expected this to be great and it was. Few people give The Miz the credit he deserves, over the years he has become one of the best Heels in the business and the use of his wife (the always amazingly gorgeous) Maryse is just the icing on the cake.

My only issue with the Raw Women's Championship match between Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan is the feeling that they are pushing Becky so hard that we will eventually all get sick of her. The two put on an entertaining match which I really enjoyed and despite the ending, I will still say that I love both and they both were made to look strong in this match.

Finally we have the Fatal 5-way with Big E putting his WWE Championship up against Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley and Kevin Owens. This was a great match with everyone trying to outdo the other. The ending was pitch perfect and unlike a lot of multi-man matches I never felt lost or wishing that an elimination element was added.

The only extra is the Kickoff match between Sheamus and Ridge Holland against Cesaro and Ricochet was fine, nothing special, but I wouldn't expect this from a Kickoff match. The match is notable for being the last 'PPV' match before WWE let Cesaro go and so it is a shame seeing him here, knowing that he will never realise any of the potential we all saw in him for years.

WWE Day One is a great example of how a PPV should be booked. Storylines were coherent and entertaining, belts were shown to mean something and the overall performances top to bottom were great. I was surprised that I had nothing bad to say about this event... and that is really annoying. If this is what Day One of 2022 is like for WWE I can't wait to see Day 365.
