Review for The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment: Special Edition
Finally! The WWE have released another set of The Great One! Over four disks of 'some' of the best matches from The Rock. I say 'some' because like many 'Best of' sets this is a little incomplete and really needed another disk of matches for it to be perfect. That being said, I loved watching all of this and The Rock proves time and time again why he is one of the best performers in wrestling at any time.
This set is actually a re-release from 2008 and since then another set had been released and so I am not sure what the point of this set is. If you have the previous one the only real addition is an additional disk worth of matches which were mostly included on that other set. However, one of the main issues is that the WWF scratch logo has not been unblurred for this release (which WWE had to do due to another lawsuit) and so I am confused as to why the original matches or an unedited one wasn't included as WWF was everywhere and so many matches are almost unwatchable because of it.
That being said, this still had twenty-three amazing matches from The Rock. Highlights include his Wrestlemania 15 match against Stone Cold Steve Austin, but not their match at Backlash 99 or Wrestlemania 17? His match against Triple H at Backlash 2000 is here, but not their better Iron Man Match from Judgment Day 2000?
There are many rare matches from Raw and Smackdown that you may not have seen before. However, one of my biggest issues with this set is that it is Match Video Match and there is no actual input from The Rock about why these matches are the best and so it does at times feel that they are just being plucked at random. Though a random Rock match is still great, it would have been better to have some commentary or talking about them.
Also included is almost a whole disk of The Rock's best promos which was just wonderful, but I do wish there was a 'Play All' option.
On the fourth additional disk they include his return matches against CM Punk and John Cena which showed just how great The Rock always will be and even if he becomes a part time wrestler (like The Undertaker) and only wrestles once in a while, it will be worth it.
The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment is definitely a set that you should pick up. If you are a fan of The Rock you will love everything on here. There are no stinker matches and the quality of almost every match is quite astonishing. If you have not got the set before or the previous one (or maybe even if you do) you will definitely enjoy all of this set... if you smell what I'm cooking?
