From modern horror master Wes Craven (Scream, Scream 2) comes a timeless shocker that remains the standard bearer for terror.

Nancy (Heather Langencamp) is having grisly nightmares. When the police ignore her explanation, she herself must confront the killer in his shadowy realm.

The original Wes Craven Masterpiece! I have this film as part of the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET COLLECTION. Excellent film, still holding its head high above some of the more recent horror tosh. One thing about this film...the soundtrack is AWESOME! I have read it is dolby stereo 2.0..i beg to differ..listen to the rear surrounds everytime Freddy speaks and you`ll see what i mean! His voice bellows and echoes from the rears and add to the suspense. Picture quality is pretty good but the disk is let down by not many extras. As a complete collection, The NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET bix set is marred by the fact the US released set includes part 6 and WES CRAVENS NEW NIGHTMARE plus a documentary on 8 discs..the uk version has only parts 1 to 5....Are they planning to milk more money out of the uk market by releasing part 6 and NEW NIGHTMARE as seperate, so-called "Collectors editions" ? Anyway, as a standalone film its a must-have.

A Nightmare On Elm Street was Wes Craven`s first taste of mainstream success and spawned 6 sequels. With the possible exception of Part 3, this is the best in the series.
Despite the film being over 15 years old, it`s still a good horror film and has dated well ( apart from the 80`s haircuts and fashions ).

The picture quality is perfect with little or no problems. The sound quality is also very good. You will never see or hear this film any better. Extra material includes a trailer, cast and crew notes and an audio commentary from director Wes Craven, actor John Saxon, actress Heather Langenkamp and director of photography Jacques Haitkin.
The commentary is very informative and there are hardly any moments of dead air. The menus are also very good.

While there could have been a few more extras, the disc is worth buying. It`s a good horror film with excellent picture and sound and an entertaining audio commentary.

The best NIGHTMARE to be delivered. Wes Craven started it all in 1984 with this big hit. He introduced the mass murderer Freddy Krueger(Robert Englund) and his stunning co-star Nancy Thompson(Heather Langenkamp). This was also Johnny Depp`s first movie and what a movie to b in. This is a film of pure genius and one for the horror fans out there.

[disctitle]Nighmare On Elm Street[/disctitle] for me has to be one of the best horror movies ever made! The reason is that it was one of the first horror films to be different from your common slasher films. The character, Freddy Krueger was scary for me as a child as i had dreams of him, this also shows that the story line could seem real to the younger viewers. Wes Craven works on a great script here and gives some amazing effects (well for that time). The acting is great and it is also good to see a young Johnny Depp.
There aren`t any good extras apart from the commentary, but an excellent film. Should be watched by any horror fan.
