Review for WWE Hell in a Cell 2019

4 / 10

I can't believe that I am going to start this review quoting X-Pac "How can you have a DQ in a freakin Hell in a Cell match?"

Now I don't usually spoil the outcomes of PPVs, but I don't think this matters as every outcome is spoilt on the back of the box anyway. I'm not joking when I say that either. This PPV will no doubt go down as one of the worst the WWE have done in a long time. This is sad as it also contains one of the best women's matches of the year, but this is the only shining light in this eight match event.

Eight matches??

If you are fans of any of the mid-card titles then unfortunately you won't be seeing them get defended. The tag belts are forgotten about too, though they do have a fine match between Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross against The Kabuki Warriors (Such a stupid name) for the Women's Tag Titles.

Instead we have a fantastic match between Becky Lynch defending her Raw Women's title against Sasha Banks in a Hell in a Cell match. This was fantastic and possibly the best Hell in a Cell I have seen in a long time. It's a shame that the match between Bayley defending her Smackdown belt against Charlotte was also not in a cell, but maybe they didn't think it needed it... it did, as this was a rather lacklustre match and the two have had much better in the past.

Randy Orton against Ali was fine in general, just the ending was dumb. As was the match between King Corbin and Chad Gable, which begged the question why give Corbin the crown if it is not going to push him anywhere?

The two tag matches are nothing special with Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan against the returning Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper and Eric Rowan) a paint by numbers tag match with everyone getting their spots in and no one really benefitting from it. I expected this to lead to a swerve, but sadly not to be. As for The Viking Raiders and Braun Strowman against The OC and AJ Styles? It was just a waste of talent. The match could and should have been better. Maybe if it was elimination style or had a stipulation or in the Cell it might have been more interesting.

Finally, we come to... SIGH... the main event.

Now, I will openly say that I hated The Fiend gimmick. The reason being is that I knew where this was going. I knew that Bray would turn and be evil and so the whole Fiend thing wasn't the shock that everyone else seems to think it is. This match, the first real test of The Fiend, was just painfully bad. The decision to have the entire match in a red light is a stupid choice and one that did not help the match. I understand the idea is that Seth Rollins must do everything to defeat this hideous creature, but everything just went to bizarre extremes where the match was called off. This was the dumbest endings to a PPV in many years

I don't know whether I can actually recommend this DVD. On one hand it features one of teh best women's matches in a long time, in fact one of the best Hell in a Cell matches in a long time. However, it also features one of the worst Hell in a Cell matches of all time too. I would watch Undertaker against Big Bossman at Wrestlemania 15 over watching this match again. That's how bad it was.

If you are curious you may want to wait until they release the Best of PPV Matches DVD as the women's match will surely appear on there, otherwise I would leave this PPV in the boring, disappointing Hell from which it came.
