Review for WWE: Becky Lynch - Iconic Matches
If you wanted me to say who is the most popular Superstar in the WWE right now (in 2019) I would say without a shadow of doubt it is Becky Lynch. The Man. Becky Two Belts. She has become one of the popular Superstars to come from WWE in a long time. For a while, she was almost forgotten about, with many speculating that she would quit the WWE, but she was able to get some fire and a push behind her and has gone on to cut some of the greatest promos since CM Punk and as for in the ring, she is just as good. This disk highlights three of her best matches from 2018.
Starting with Summerslam 2018 with a Triple Threat Match between Becky Lynch, Carmella and Charlotte Flair for the Smackdown Women's Championship. This was a great match which was given more time than most women's matches have ever been. This is important, especially in a match like this which needed the time to mean more. Although I didn't agree with the ending, in hindsight the 'betrayal' of Becky by Charlotte was pivotal in creating The Man. This should have turned Becky Heel, but the fans love her too much for that.
From Hell in a Cell 2018 we have the SmackDown Women’s Championship Match between Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch which was good. However, this is the PPV after Summerslam and so it did feel a little bit ‘too little too late’ and that they should have allowed Lynch to have won the previous month, but this was still a great match between the two.
From Evolution 2018 we have The Last Woman Standing Match for Smackdown Women’s Championship between Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. This is one of the best matches… not ‘women’s’… best matches of that year. Both worked so well together and from bell to bell both put on amazing performances. This match was amazing.
It is a shame that there are only three matches here, though when you consider that most women's matches are around five-ten minutes this just shows how much the women's matches have evolved. It would have been nice to have seen more and I think not seeing some of her promos during this time is a missed opportunity.
I usually moan about how necessary the disk is and though this is true to some extent, if you are a fan of Becky Lynch you will love all three of these characters as they cement just how she became The Man. With her popularity in the past year, she will no doubt get a complete set with documentary soon enough and when she does I will be recommending that.
