This is my 200th review for this site. :)
You can see just how much I liked the original disk in my review here: http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/reviews/comments.asp?DiscIndex=206 .
I was thrilled when I heard there`s a new ultimate edition out, so I pre-ordered it, and I`m so glad I did. It`s awesome. Absolutely fantastic.
The video transfer is excellent. There are no compression signs and the image is crystal clear. Disk 1 contains the widescreen version and disk 2 contains the full screen one. Both look great, but, naturally, the widescreen is superior.
The DTS and DD 5.1 soundtracks are awesome. The DTS excels in particular. The sound is clear, very well defined and the channel separation is superb. The surrounds and the sub get a great workout in this movie.
The menus are all beautifully animated with sound.
The extras include 3 commentaries (the one by Fraser is the best), a behind the scenes look, lots of information about ancient Egypt, some deleted scenes, stages in the CG animation, production notes, a picture gallery and some storyboards. The DVD-ROM section includes a demo of "The Mummy" game and some screen savers. All in all, the extras are superb.
Bottom line - a really great movie wrapped in an excellent 2-disk set. Highly recommended.

A fantastic film - and this ultimate edition lives up to all expectations. Both the video transfer and audio quality are outstanding and we get some great extras as well.

The main highlights are the 3 commentaries and 47 minute making of "Building a Better Mummy" which mainly deals with the visual effects. We also get a couple of deleted scenes (while they don't amount to more than a couple of minutes in total, it would have been nice to be given some reason for there exclusion, although I expect it was for time reasons). Also, we get a lot of text based educational stuff, which while not all that exciting is a nice touch and worth a quick look through ("Egyptology 101" and "Pharaoh Lineage"). We also get the usual production notes, cast & director bios & filmographies, trailers (one for this film and one for the sequel), photo montage of well over 100 photos, as well as quite a good sneak peak at The Mummy Returns. The menus are also well designed and easy to navigate.

All in all an excellent purchase. Although I would advice getting the R2 Ultimate Mummy set (4 discs) that seems to be going cheap at the moment.

A simply fantastic movie by all accounts. Loosely based on the Boris Karloff classic, this movie sees a pair of British siblings, Jonathan and Evelyn, who team up with a cocky, rugged but good hearted American, Rick O` Connell, in a quest to find the mythical city of the dead, Hamunaptra. Unknowingly, they break the spell which was keeping the Mummified body of high priest Imhotep dead and so begins our adventure.
This is just superb stuff. A great script and excellent acting together with some marvellous scenery and special effects. An all out action epic on the scale of the Indiana Jones adventures.
Picture is a superb anamorphic widescreen one that is clean, sharp and colourful. Really looks stunningly beautiful. The sound also is a marvellous DD 5.1 that brings the movie alive.
This 2 disc set is loaded with lots of extras including making of featurettes, trailers, deleted scenes amongst other stuff.
