Scent of a Woman (UK)

A great movie with an astounding acting performance by the great Al Pacino, which resulted in him winning an academy award for Best Actor. Chris O Donnell plays Charlie, a hard up student at a school. He is getting by on hardship funds and scholarships in a school where everyone else is rich. He Applies for a care job over Thanksgiving weekend to earn some money. Little did he know what he was in for when he first met Al Pacino as they embark on a weekend they will never forget.
Al plays his usual tough guy character well only with one major difference and that is the character is blind. He is hard, tough and to the point. He notably swears a lot which probably helped a great deal in giving this movie a 15 rating. The verbal abuse did add a lot to his character and did seem essential.
The visuals are pretty good. The image is somewhat dated so there is a little grain but other than that you have a crisp picture that is appeasing. Sadly the sound was a DD 2.0 and I have to say that a DD 5.1 sound mix would have been more appropriate. Though there are no real action scenes, there are some good sound moments that perhaps would have been more defined with a 5.1 soundtrack and the movie is only about 10 years old. The theme is quite memorable and some hard hitting moments could have been sharpened up. As it is, there arent that many problems with the DD 2.0 soundtrack, it just would have been more better with a 5.1
There are no real extras apart from a trailer and some cast/crew bios. This stuff isnt that great and there really should have been some more stuff for a great movie such as this.
Overall a brilliant movie that is powerful and deeply moving. The movie is helped along by some really strong acting and direction. Though the movie is great, the disc is lacking in the sound and extras department so it really is your choice if you want to buy now or wait.
