Synopsis:
Arnold Schwarzenegger plays John Kruger, a U.S. Marshal who "erases" the lives and identities of people entering the Witness Protection Program. Kruger must protect an executive (Vanessa Williams) who`s uncovered a deal to put a new superweapon in the wrong hands. It`s a do-or-die assignment. So Kruger makes sure he does in a nonstop action spree that includes plunging from an airplane after his parachute, turning ravenous alligators into instant luggage, outbraining ultratech security and outbrawning killers with hypervelocity weapons.

For power-packed excitement, Eraser is unstoppable.

Arnie`s back, and this time he`s a marshal with the witness protection programme, who quickly finds he`s bitten off more than he can chew when one of his witnesses (Vanessa Williams) uncovers a massive illegal arms deal. It`s not one of his best films, but it`s still very entertaining throughout, with some superb action scenes and lots of high-tech weaponry on show.

To me, the only thing that really lets the film down is the scene in the reptile house. Those computer generated crocodiles look *very* fake, and completely ruin any sense of danger. (Jurassic Park has a lot to answer for!)

Eraser was one of the first ever R1 DVDs, and it shows. It`s pretty good by 1997 standards (you do get a decent anamorphic transfer in the proper 2.35:1 ratio, and a good DD5.1 soundtrack), but it`s spartan as far as extras go. All you get are some cast biographies, and a trailer.

By the way, the UK R2 release of this movie was heavily censored by the BBFC, so if you`re an Arnie fan, it`s well worth investing in this uncut Region 1 edition.

Just a quickie. Good Arnie film with plenty of action and humour.

The R1 beats the R2 hands down simply because the R2 release was sodomised by the BBFC and was cut by something like 3 minutes. Most of the violence isn`t that bad to be honest, and I wonder if today it would have been passed uncut???

Anyway, the picture is good but not great. The sound is fairly satisfying, especially in the "plane" scene.

Basically, if you like Arnie and his films, you should like this.
