Review for WWE Elimination Chamber 2014

6 / 10

Elimination Chamber is one of my favourite PPVs mainly because of its main concept match. This year it felt more like damage control. After the awful Rumble, with the result being Batista in the main event at Wrestlemania, it seemed the fan community and WWE Universe had openly expressed their dislike of this. Coupling with that we had the shock exit of CM Punk (which is still ongoing) and the constant burying of Daniel Bryan by Triple H and The Authority. It seemed this was the PPV to right a few wrongs. And did it?

Yes and no.

It is a marked improvement over the Rumble, which most people will remember from last time was declared to be by my (A huge Rumble fan) 'Worst Rumble Ever!' And this PPV is an entertaining step in the right direction.

BUT

There's still a lot to do to make the show perfect and this PPV is far from perfect.

Big E vs. Jack Swagger for the Intercontinental belt was a nice match, more surprising that WWE actually remembered to put it on the PPV at all. The highlight is always Zeb Colter's promo at the beginning and the match itself is fine, if a little forgettable. Even more surprising was the the Tag Belts were also defended between The New Age Outlaws and The Usos. It's almost like WWE remembered that they had more than just the World and Divas Title for once? This was a fine tag match, but didn't have the ending that it should have had.

Darren Young vs. Titus O'Neil was such a pointless match that I don't know why they even bothered including it.

The Shield vs. The Wyatts is the very definition of an Awesome Storyline. Both stables are just perfect and this could possibly be match of the night. As with all multi-tag matches I always think that it should be elimination style to make it more interesting. That being said, this is a great story, great characters and great match. If WWE had the confidence in their new generation of superstars they should have made this the main event as it truly deserves it.

Listen to that crowd WWE. This is what we want!

WWE Divas match between Cameron and AJ Lee was a typical, pointless Divas match. Rather than making either of them look good, it made them both look useless. Speaking of looking useless, we then had Batista vs. Alberto Del Rio was a blink and you will miss it match. Remember Batista is the man who is going to 'Headline' Wrestlemania. I watch this and say:

WHY???

Finally we have the Elimination Chamber featuring WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton, Christian, Antonio Cesaro, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus and of course John Cena. I don't understand why they didn't add Alberto Del Rio into this match and have Batista and Cena have a match that might mean something. This match could have should have been awesome and in some ways it was. It had most of the crazy moments that you expect. Pod windows being smashed, crazy aerial moves and painful attacks throughout.

What lets the match down is of course the ending.

Listen to that crowd WWE. You can hear what we want and what we don't want! I understand that Orton is a heel and we are supposed to hate him, but there is a big difference between hating him and wanting him to be defeated and hating him so much that we would prefer he wasn't on our screens anymore. This is almost what WWE have done with him.

Extras on this disk includes the tag match between Goldust and Cody Rhodes and Rybaxel (Such a stupid name). This was an ok match, but nothing special. Zeb Colter's peptalk is as awesome as always, The Wyatt's vignette is pretty cool as they always are and Randy Orton's interview is just a typical 'I'm great' promo.

Elimination Chamber 2014 was an average PPV which is a shame as it did have so much promise. Most of the matches are fine, if a little forgettable, but of course the main event was a huge disappointing end to the PPV. Apart from the Shield/Wyatt match, this is probably not something that will be rewatched.
