First this version unlike the R1 version has an impressive 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer considering it`s 33 years old(the R1 version is only a letterbox version). The sound is presented in DD5.1 which is good. The extras are trailers for all 5 ape movies and a photo gallery and cast bios. Not as much as the R1 version which includes a documentry.I`ve always like this film ever since I saw it many years ago, a really good story line from first landing on this alien planet to right up the chilling last part. It`s a shame that fox shows the last part of the film on the cover incase some people haven`t seen the film yet.Still a great dvd which gets me into the mood for the remake being released this year and all for under £10 can`t be bad.

"In the future an astronaut (Charlton Heston) and his crew crash lands on a distant planet ruled by apes who use a primitive race of humans for experimentation and sport. Soon legendary Heston finds himself among the hunted his life in the hands of a benevolent chimpanzee scientist".

One of the greatest classics of the 20th century has now got a new transfer to dvd. This region 4 dvd release features outstanding & beautiful video quality and it looks sharper than ever. The aspect ratio is 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen (16:9) and the colors / shadows level is almost perfect + I didn`t notice any disturbing grain or dirt. I remember seeing this movie from tv years ago and the picture looked so messy, so the picture quality really suprised me, consider that this movie was made in the year 1967 or something like that.

The audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 and it sounds pretty good, but you can hear the age of the sound & effects. Well, I think that Planet Of Apes couldn`t sound any better for 33 years old film. The strongest part of audio comes when we hear Jerry Goldsmith`s strange & also scary soundtrack, which makes this film come to life. The extras are quite poor, only photo gallery, original theatrical trailers for all 5 Planet of Ape Movies
and something like that. The interactive menus were quite cool.

Overall this disc is nice and if you`re a collector of classical scifi movies then get this dvd at once, because the video quality is so good and the story is exciting, but also humoristic.
