Review for WWE Superstars Daniel Bryan

7 / 10

Daniel Bryan is one of the best Superstars in the WWE today and what is more interesting is that when we first saw him in 2010 he had already been in the business for nearly a decade. Trained by Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, Bryan found huge success on the indy scene in Ring of Honor and became a well respected wrestler. But for many people, he was never heard of until he debuted on NXT. And when he did he proved just why people like him and CM Punk were the future of the industry.

This DVD features a number of matches from Daniel Bryan and though it would have been nice to have heard from the man himself about certain matches or his own opinion of his rise, until he gets his own 3-disk set, this will have to do.

As with a lot of these sets my only two problems are that we all know who will win the match in each one and that I do question some of the picks. We have here a collection of five matches from 2010-2012 of which I would say four are great and one is just average-good. Now though they are great and it is nice to watch them again I doubt when they do produce the 3-Disk set that some of these will be on here. Though saying that, looking back apart from the bizarre Smackdown match the other four would probably work.

Daniel Bryan vs. Chris Jericho 2010
This was a great match and really showed that Bryan had a massive amount of potential and Jericho was clearly the best person to showcase this. Both put on a great match that (if longer) could have been PPV quality.

US Championship Match 2010
Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz
This match had such a great storyline going into it (Helped by having the intro montage). The sad thing about this match is remembering that it was only barely three years old when The Miz was a main eventer who people actually took seriously. Some great moments and as much as Miz can't even pretend to be as good as Bryan he certainly looked good in this match.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match 2011
Daniel Bryan, Wade Barrett, Sin Cara, Justin Gabriel, Sheamus, Cody Rhodes, Heath Slater and Kane.
This is a pretty good match. Like all ladder matches, it is full of exciting moments and it is surprising just how much talent is in this match who would go on to World Title or Main Event status. There's something about this one that actually makes it interesting is that it feels almost like a Cruiserweight match. It is filled with high flyers and people known for flips and jumps that makes the match amazing to watch. The only two that stick out are Kane and Sheamus, but they add some insane power to the match. Great match, despite the fact we know who's going to win.

Daniel Bryan vs. Mark Henry 2011
This is a strange Smackdown match between Bryan and then champion Mark Henry and I can't for the life of me understand why it is here? It doesn't add anything and is certainly not a great match, watchable yes, but not great. Instead I would have just had a montage of the feud between him, Henry and Big Show which would have been better and made the next match mean more.

World Heavyweight Championship Match
Steel Cage Triple Threat
Daniel Bryan vs. Mark Henry vs. Big Show
I really enjoyed this match BUT and this is a big BUT this is a classic example of over stipulating the match. You got a triple threat-Not good enough! Let's put in a cage, Perfect! That being said, it is one of those matches where it works. Henry and Show bring some scary power to this match and Bryan brings the technical ability as well as the sneaky Heel running away tactics. Some great moments and certainly one of those matches that makes you wonder how any of them can still walk.

This disk is fine for Daniel Bryan fans as a taster of just how good he is. Much like CM Punk, he is one of those people who even in an average match, it is still better than most matches out there. However, it wouldn't surprise me if they release his own boxset that includes most of the stuff that is on here. But if you are a fan of Daniel Bryan I'd say YES! YES! YES!
