Review for WWE Superstar Collection Randy Orton

Randy Orton is one of those superstars that has everything going for him. A third generation superstar, mentored by Triple H in Evolution and of course his amazing streak as The Legend Killer. He has won multiple WWE and World Championships and he is always the top of the card for the WWE.

Yet...

I honesty couldn't care less about Orton as a wrestler. Sure, the RKO is great, as is the boot to the head which is just brutal to watch, but whenever I see him I bore and fast forward. This DVD features four matches. Yes, four. No goofy intros to the matches, or Orton explaining why they are on here it is simply: This is Randy Orton and here are four of his matches. It is almost like something that would have been released on UMD for the PSP or one of those cheap VHS from the early days.

That being said, if you do like Randy Orton the four matches here are probably going to be enjoyable for you and to be honest the mix of matches are fine. A Three Stages of Hell (Wrestling Match, Falls Count Anywhere and Stretcher Match) against Triple H is actually pretty good and though it's not perfect and the ending is stupid, it's certainly an enjoyable match from The Bash 2009. A triple threat between Orton, Triple H and Cena at Night of Champions 2009 is also fine and just a typical triple threat with not many surprises apart from the pretty cool ending.

There is a bizarre jump to a random match on Raw 2010 against Ted Dibiase. This was after the whole Legacy break up and though a good match, it's nothing special. Finally, a match against Christian at Capitol Punishment 2011. This is again a fine match, but nothing special. This could almost be the tagline to the DVD... Randy Orton-Nothing Special Collection.

You probably noticed the set covers three years of Orton's career. The fact that these are not all five star matches or matches that you could watch over and over is bizarre. Unlike a lot of Superstar specific DVDs, like the previous Randy Orton one, this one feels like WWE have just cobbled together whatever they had lying around, slapped it on a DVD and put it on the sheves. The matches are fine, but they are not matches I would watch more than once and even the most eager Orton fans would have to admit there's not much on offer. If there had been some extras, promos, maybe a look at why these matches are going on it would help. As it is, the set may aswell be a collection of random Raw or Smackdown matches that Orton had been in.

If you are huge fan of Orton and need to own everything then you may get some enjoyment out of it, but I doubt the casual fan will get anything from this rather weak disk. I hear voices in my head... they tell me not to buy this DVD.
