Your Opinions and Comments
Charlie`s Angels is a gleeful, take-nothing-seriously romp. Three drop-dead-gorgeous stars having a complete ball being Action Women. This is an action-comedy, not in the in-your-face "Airplane" tradition, but a rollicking subversion of TV rehashes, martial-arts potboilers like "The Matrix" and action pictures in general.
Bits to watch out for are Cameron Diaz`s scene-stealing rear end (even more of a scene stealer than Catherine Zeta Jones` bum in "Entrapment"), Drew Barrymore licking the steering wheel at the race track, Lucy Liu`s "Banzai!" massage technique, the "Swiss Miss" scene...
The disk comes peppered with short extras rather than one long documentary, which suits the MTV style of the movie. There are also three Easter eggs on the disk, accessed through the three Special Features menus. On page one you go to "Gettin` G`d Up" and press right to highlight part of the menu photo, then enter. This fires up a short set of three beauty shots of the lead actresses. Page two you go up to the top option, press left to highlight an area on Bosley`s jacket and enter, and that gets you a quick sequence of Drew Barrymore having a life mask made for makeup. Page Three, you go down to the arrow at the bottom of the page, press right, highlighting Knox`s eyes and enter to get a short piece of the cast goofing about on set.
It`s the perfect Guys` (or Girls`) Night In movie. Crack a beer, dish up a Ruby and you`re sorted.
All 3 angels look great and move around pretty nicely.
The video transfer is excellent. There are no compression signs at all and the visuals are stunning. There are quite a few special effects in the movie (explosions, slow motion fighting, slow motion bullets and lots more) and all of them are done really nicely.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is very good as well. The surrounds are used often and give a very good sound envelope.
The menus are all beautifully animated with sound and music.
The extras include a nice commentary, an extensive behind the scenes look, some deleted scenes, several funny outtakes, 2 music videos, some production notes and over half a dozen trailers.
Bottom line - a 100% popcorn movie which can be enjoyed only if not taken seriously. Have fun! :)
As LL Cool J says yet another movie based on a TV show. Charlies angels is so bad it`s good. The movie is made not to be taken seriously with over the top acting from the three leads and others plus slow-mo fight sequences and slow-mo bullets which are taken from The Matrix and other Asian Fighting films. The problem is that the director McG (!) is an awful director, with camera work that would give Michael Bay a head ache. The film is ok, the film is to be watched with mates having a laugh. Don`t expect to sit down and be concentrating over the plot, or lack of plot.
Sound:
The sound is top-notch and utilizileses 5.1 to the max.
Picture:
Picture is also spot on and crystal clear.
Extras:
An interesting commentary by McG and Cinematographer Russell Carpenter (True Lies). A crap feature on McG, with every one praising him (it makes me sick) and other bit`s an bob`s covering most aspects of the production.
