True Lies was billed as a James Bond movie for the 1990`s and it delivers. You may not think that Arnie can do James Bond and to draw to closer a comparison would be silly, he does however do a good job, he has confidence and can carry off the action sequences with one hand tied behind his back.

I can understand that some people may find it difficult to watch this film at the moment in light of the terrible attacks in America but we have to keep some kind of perspective and recognise that this film was made in Hollywood.

A Brief Plot Outline

The plot is simple, Harry (Arnie) is a spy. He has kept this secret from his wife all their married life. He is involved trying to catch a group of terrorists who have stolen some nuclear weapons. Amongst all this Harry`s wife (Curtis) wants a bit more spice in her life and is having liasons with a used car salesman posing as a spy. Harry discovers this by chance and the movie spends 20 mins or so exploring this theme whilst Harry discovers exactly what is going on.

Eventually, Harry closes in on the terrorists and tries to prevent them launching a nuclear attack on the world. His wife and daughter become involved in the plot and the climax of the film is set high above the city of Miami.

The Picture

This film looks great a fine transfer, it is anamorphic and captures the lighting perfectly. A good example of this would be the night chase near the start, the reflections on the cars are sharp and the downtown city looks great.

The Sound

This again is excellent, all speakers get a good work out there is plenty of separattion and the sub works hard for its dinner.

The Disc

A bit of a disaster here I`m afraid all we are given is a theatrical trailer. If there was a film that warranted a good making of (there must be quite a bit of stuff out there) its this one. The final scenes with the Harrier are excellent and are worthy of some explanation.

Summary
I decided to buy this film because I had`nt seen it for a while and I remebered that I always enjoyed it, this feeling has remained on my first viewing for a longtime I think that this film is terrific fun and deserves its title as a James Bond of the 1990`s and then some. The special effects are stunning and the picture and sound are excellent. No special features but its a great addition to your collection.
