"Makes the Blair Witch Project seem like a stroll in the woods" - The List
Certificate: 15
Running Time: 91 mins
Retail Price: $19.99
Release Date:

Synopsis:
Within a week of watching a mysterious videotape, a group of teenagers are dead. The bodies are found gruesomely contorted, their eyes frozen as if they had seen something more terrifying than any physical threat.

The video becomes an urban myth. Insidiously, an unseen force is pointing its deadly finger at those poor souls unable to resist their curiosity. One of those people is the cynical journalist Reiko, who soon finds herself unwillingly drawn into a spiralling nightmare of fear from an unseen, omnipresent threat.

The most unsettling film since The Exorcist, with an unnatural presence that touches every nerve in your body, `Ring` is a beast of an entirely different order. Critically acclaimed as one of the most frightening horror films in years, `Ring` delivers a tense spine-chilling atmosphere, filled with an overwhelming sense of dread and a potent presence of unworldly evil.

Dark, sinister and genuinely horrifying, this is a film you will never forget.

After the hype of The Blair Witch it`s refreshing to see a movie that has lived up to it`s press .If you Ignore the quotes on the cover of the dvd and don`t view the Trailer ( Which gives away the main part`s of the movie!) you will enjoy a truely original horror movie.
The last time I enjoyed a horror movie was Scream, as it was a breath of fresh air to the genre , this movie has the same impact.
Don`t get me wrong this movie will not appeal to everyone the slow pace and Japanese subtitles could put a lot of people off.
The movie has the same uneasy feeling about it not unlike The Blair Witch , the story unfolds in such an intelligent way as to make the viewer dread the next sequence of event`s.
And the ending will scare the hell out of you!!
I`ve tried to not give too much here just to say watch and enjoy!
P.S. Iv`e only got six more day`s to live!!!

This is one of the best horror films ever made. It has a primal fear and a essence of dread that runs throughout the entire movie and puts other horror films to shame. The storyline is simple and although subtitled, is easy to follow, allowing the viewer to get sucked along with the heroine`s quest to find the truth behind the curse she is investigating. To say too much about the story will ruin the film, so instead watch it for yourself and see how a horror film should really be made.

There`s an urban legend circulating involving a possessed videocassette, and if viewed by human eyes, that person will die exactly one week later. And no, they don`t suffer any ordinary death; the victim apparently dies in a frozen state of intense fear - the only indication of a death from the tape.

If you like movies that make you jump and keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through, then I highly recommend that you get this DVD. It should be the prize disc in every horror buff`s collection. Just make sure you watch it late at night - without distraction - and you will get the full effect of the movie. In fact, I`m almost certain that if you watch this movie in full as described above, you`ll be too scared to play the video (as featured in the movie) that Tartan Terror have so kindly provided!

Excellent film, unfortunately a poor but watchable DVD release.

With the American remake coming soon to UK cinemas, now is a good time to check out the original Ring, a Japanese cult film much hyped .
This is a well constructed psychological horror film. It is reminiscent of the classic horror films where less is more is used effectively.
Some people may be put off by the Japanese subtitles and the poor transfer from Tartan but I would urge them to watch the film.
I won`t discuss the plot as it will spoil the film. Needless to say, you will be entertained (though the pace is slow at times) and the ending is very shocking. The film does not use cheap scares like teen horror films but use your imagination and you will be rewarded. The acting may seem unemotional but that is a foreign culture where emotions have to be restrained.
It is a pity that Tartan have done a poor job with the DVD transfer. There are very light extras. The region 4 DVD would be a better bet.
In summary, believe the hype and watch the original first.
