FANTASTIC!!!

First of all this has to be one of the best films i have ever seen, i saw it at the theatre and it blew me away. So when i seen the earlier release on DVD i was pretty gutted that it had
no real extras. Then i heard this version was about to come out, so i had to get it! The film is superb, if you have not seen it get it NOW! The DVD quality is brilliant, no grain etc.. as far as i could see,and the dull, rain city comes across brilliantly too, as well as all the darkened scenes. The sound is also brilliant , i loved the scenes where `Somerset` was at home alone, and you can hear the noise of neighbours shouting etc.. on surround sound, great stuff, but overall the sound and picture quality is excellent, no complaints. Onto the extas, this is double CD, the first CD has the film with four commentries, the second disc has all the main extras. There are the tv spot and trailer,storyboard, along with alternative beginning and ending (quite a different ending too )
there are lots more which i have yet to see, you certainly need
some time to watch the lot. All in all this is a superb film which for once has great quality all round with plenty of extras.
My only grouch is the deleted scenes, i would have liked more
for the only real deleted scene is the alternative beginning. But
this is a DVD you must have!" This is what DVD is all about.

some regard it as a classic well after paltrows oscar speech this was a film to watch .however the movie does not stand up to repeat views why because the ending like the sixth sense is downbeat and is not the classic the critics tell us brad pitt is in charles bronson mode in the last two minutes.watch the ending of ten to midnight and this its pretty similar.extra features are okay picture is good but the film is well overrated.

Now they dont make movies like this anymore...ho hum.

The movie itself is worth a viewing, as it is one of the best thrillers I have watched in recent years.

May I say at this point that Morgan Freeman is God!

Anyway, the extra features are class, espcecially the directors commentary track (theres four). Although I was a little miffed that the alternate endings weren`t vastly different from the original.

The sound and picture are great, the transfer really brings out the grimey locations in the movie. The music is also top notch, very dramatic and spooky.

One of the best R2 discs around, rent or buy it now.

It beats Hannibal anyway!

Bit of a shocker this one,if you like your crime thrillers to have at least some upbeat moments then turn your back and walk away-cause Se7en has ONE,one jovial scene in 2hours!Don`t let that put you off though,Se7en has to rank as one of the slickest,sickest,most mind bending thrillers ever comitted to film.
You must all know thw story by now,so i`ll just concentrate on the merits off the discs themselves.Discs i hear you say?Yes my friends,this newly remastered DVD version comes on two shiny discs;the first houses the movie plus no less than FOUR audio commentaries,the second a whole host of extras,from the obligatory behind the scenes featurette,to some excellent mini vignettes detailing how the movie was remastered for home theatre viewing-great stuff,if a little short lived.
Any short comings though,are completely forgotten as soon as you pop disc one in the tray-whether you have plain old stereo,or like me you have the benefit of full dolby ex and dts-es discrete surround-Se7en is sure to delight.The film has that gripping sense of atmosphere and gloom that has you waiting til the end to race for the loo!Okay so the ending is a little downbeat for some,but this aside the movie excels on many grounds;the lead performances from all actors are exemplary-Brad Pitt showing his versatilaty superbly;tough cop then all of a sudden reduced to emotional rubble!
All of this and i havent even mentioned disc quality yet.Well if you like your discs demo quality then this will serve you very nicely indeed,from the excellent cinemascope enhanced picture, to the superbly remastered sound,this is first class all the way-in particular the dts discrete 6.1 sound,in one scene you can hear dripping water from somersets hat from directly behind you whilst creaks and footsteps move from the rear left and right-how sound technology has evolved!
Se7en is one of those cult classic movies,diverse and daring whilst remaining utterly cinematic all the way.Along with Fight Club this ranks as another David Fincher classic,buy and you won`t be disapointed.First class.

I only just got this film yesterday, so I havent checked everything out yet, but I wanted to review it anyway. Ack, its still fair, probably.

Content:- This film kicks ass! I forgot just how chilling it really is, the whole experience is actually damn powerful. Still makes me jump. The performances are top class, Brad Pitt gives one of his best and Morgan Freeman is just always good. This film sucks you in from start to finish, there is never a dull moment throughout. It rocks!

Video:- Crisp, clean and clear. You couldnt really ask for much more in the visual department. Aye.

Audio:- Well it does have a DTS soundtrack, as well as a DD5.1 one. I have only watched this on a mono TV, but I imagine the DTS option is suitably amazing. From what I heard, it all sounded dandy. Yup.

Features:- A real strong point here. I still havent looked at all the stuff on the second disc or any of the commentaries on the first. All the things I have seen are damn good, the depth shown in some of the wee pieces is quite scary really. As good as perfect extras really.

Overall:- Definately worth buying!

Wow. That`s the only word I can think of to describe this set right now. DVD finally does justice to one of the best movies of the 90s, and David Fincher`s second best film (Fight Club is his best!).

Se7en is the disturbing tale of Detective Somerset (Freeman) who has seven days left until retirement. It`s then that a psychotic killer starts killing people in the ways of the Seven deadly sins. Somerset and his new partner, Detective Mills (Pitt) have to try and locate the killer before he reaches the end of his killing spree. A dark, gruesome, disturbing yet fantastic and original movie, Se7en brings back the serial-killer movie in style.

The picture is probably the best I have seen on DVD so far. The remastered print is a joy to behold, one that Fincher himself was involved with. Throughout the film I could not find one single problem with it. Spectacular.

The sound creates a brilliant atmosphere and brings the terror and tension into your living room. The choices of DD5.1 and DTS EX 6.1 are both brilliant soundtracks, with DTS being slightly better of course.

And we come to the extras. They make this 2-disc set worth having by far. The original disc had barely anything on it, and New Line have managed to pull together a brilliant set of extras. You get 4 commentaries, filmographies, deleted scenes, alternative endings, trailers and a special featurette on how they remastered Se7en. Fantastic stuff.

What`s that you say? You haven`t bought this yet?!?! Well, go and redeem yourself now! Buy this brilliant 2-disc set and be amazed. It`s shot up to the top of my faves in my collection, and I`m sure it will for you too. Se7en purists might want to go for the R1 edition, simply for the special booklet and cardboard packaging.

Absolutely fantastic movie, really enjoyed it, scared the S#!t out of the missus! well worthy of anybodies time!

This is one of my favourite movies, it`s fantastic and Kevin Spacey "wow" I`ve never seen a better psycho and Brad Pitt especially towards the end was brilliant, particularly, in terms of portraying emotion!

Overall the story is fantastic with the 7 deadly sins, this is the kind of movie you can watch again and again...

Feature:

Se7en is one of the greatest thrillers ever been put to screen. It has great actors involved which give great performances and Kevin Spacey in a cameo role as John Doe gives a haunting and disturbing performance. David Fincher is a great Director and finally got a film to flex his muscles on a little (It`s a shame that Alien 3 didn`t work out, same goes with the Game)
The cinematography is great and sets the mood (Thanks Darius Kondji-Alien Resurrection) and the film does hold some big surprises which are brilliantly executed from a great script by Andrew Kevin Walker.

Sound:

One of the first DVD`s to experiment with DTS ES, which is absoloutly fantastic and has the edge over Dolby

Extras:

New Line have pulled out all the stops for this very special special edition. The 4 Commentaries are brilliant and so informative and give lot`s of insight into the film. The Deleted Scenes are also great as is the rest of the material, though there isn`t a lot of Fincher getting in front of the camera for interviews but when it comes down to the 4 Commentaries he`s involved in. Mr Fincher has become DVD`s new best friend!

Two dectives, a veteran who is about to retire(Freeman) and one who is starting(Pitt) are chasing after a serial killer who justifies his killing via the seven deadly sins.

Video- One of if not, the best video quality so far in my DVD collection. Presented in 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen, there isn`t a single fault in the transfer. Colours are more natural and brighter than any previous releases. A pleasing transfer. You really need a really good eye to view for print damage or flecks of dirt.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, it loses a mark due to the small amount of edge enhancement on this DVD. It`s still a good transfer and one of the best video quality.


Sound- Unlike the video quality which suffers from a small amount of edge enhancement applied, the sound department is exceptional. Se7en is offered in DD 5.1, DTS 6.1 and 2.0. DD 5.1 mix is very atmospheric and is a pleasing sound mix. Howard Shore`s score sets the mood for this suspensful thriller.

Extras- The SE of Se7en not only boast 1 but 4 audio commentaries. One from Fincher and two main actors, Pitt and Freeman. They discuss their experiences on the production of the film although Freeman`s commentary is recorded seperately.

One from the professor of Film Studies/author Richard Dyer, screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, editor Richard Francis-Bruce, New Line Cinema`s President of Production Michael De Luca and Fincher. This track focuses on the plot of Se7en.

Note: the last 2 focus on the technical issues.

Another one from Fincher, director of photography Darius Khondji, production designer Arthur Max, editor Richard Francis-Bruce, and Richard Dyer. This focuses on the looks of Se7en. Lots of jargon so be prepared for a load of words you haven`t heard of.

The last one is from sound designer Ren Klyce, composer Howard Shore, Richard Dyer, and Fincher. This track contains isolated music and fx cues. Like the 3rd track, it too has lots of jargon.

2nd disc contains a look on the opening sequence. This is a multi angle feature and lets you look at the storyboard version to the final version.

Deleted scenes are basically extended scenes and add little in not, no value. Commentary with Fincher is included. You can see why they have been dropped.

Alternate ending consists of test screen ending, storyboards and an unshot ending. All with commentary.

Production designs,Still photographs and The Notebooks galleries, all with commentaries.

EPK featurette is not worth looking at. Released around the time of the film`s release.

Finally we have Mastering for the home theater which covers audio and video mastering and colour correction. Telecine gallery is kind of worth looking at.

Overall- Fincher has achieved perfection in this modern classic. Shame about the extras. A 2hr documentary would be better than an EPK featurette. Se7en is highly recommended to the fans of the thriller genre.
