Review for UFC Best of 2010
It is very rare that when a DVD declares it is 'The Best' that it actually lives up to the title. Well today is one of those rare days.
My problem with watching UFC PPVs is that really you are only watching for one or two fights and so you have to trawl through a two or three hour DVDs which could just be so-so to get to your main event or specific fight. It also makes purchasing the PPV a little redundant if you only want to see that one or two fights.
That is where this DVD comes into play which contained 23 of the best fights from 2010 and when you watch them all like this you can understand how UFC can sell a PPV based simply on the main event. The fights are all full length which is great and so you can experience the full fight from start to finish and what is great about the set is that the fights are not just the main events from the year, but also great fights featuring up and comers who put on amazing performances.
The fights include Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez, the return of Rampage Jackson vs. Rashard Evans, Lyoto Machida vs. Shogan Rua and Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen which rightly so went on to be declared Fight of the Year. All of which were great fights especially Lesnar vs. Velasquez which was (in my opinion) one of the best fights of the year, in a year when Lesnar seemed utterly unstoppable, but then so did Velasquez and seeing them square off was just explosive. I'm sure there are fights missing, though if they are I can't think of any and if UFC put every fight on the set then there would be no point in releasing the PPV on DVD in the first place. Also included is a tribute to Matt Hughes who was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in May 2010 to go alongside such greats as Randy Couture, Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie. This is a nice feature and something that UFC should do every year they induct someone in the Hall of Fame. Also included is a 'Best of 2010 Behind the Scenes Featurette' which is a nice behind the scenes thing, but certainly not something you will be watching more than once.
UFC Best of 2010 is a great overview of the last year. I'm sure that some things are missing, but that's not exactly something I would be complaining about. This Best of set is supposed to show some of the greatest fights from UFC from 2010 and so I'd say that this DVD accomplished its goal in spades.
