Review of Phenomenon

7 / 10

Video

Phenomenon is presented in 2.35:1 widescreen and is split over 18 chapters. As a recent print should ensure, the video quality is high. Clarity is good with a nice colour balance that looks equally at home when viewed on TV or projection systems.

Audio

A 5.1 soundtrack is included on this disk, and although not really an amazingly surround sound oriented film, the rear channels do come into play often.

Features

The static menus allow access to the original theatrical trailer, but that is all. It is a shame that these days many recent movies on DVD do not take the opportunity to provide a better package. I am thinking here of director`s commentaries, or details on the special effects techniques used.

Conclusion

I enjoyed Phenomenon, although I found it a little slow from the second half of the film onwards. I felt they could have done so much more with the script, as it seems to imply a full sci-fi type trip, but turns out not to be so. It later turns out to be a bit of a weepy!

The DVD presents the film and a trailer, and could have been better specified, but if you like the film, the video and audio quality will not disappoint.
